SafeHome: technological innovation for the management of claims in the home

26 June 2025 · By Gema Carreño

The SafeHome project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the Operational Program of the Community of Madrid 2021-2027, has allowed BDEO TECHNOLOGIES to develop a solution ready for adaptation to market requirements.

Public funding, key to making solutions that transform the insurance industry a reality: the case of SafeHome

The creation and management of home incidents, as well as the subsequent insurance claim, is a process that currently remains slow, inefficient and problematic for both policyholders and insurers.

For the customer, it is often a long, tedious and stressful experience. For the insurer, it involves high operational costs, low traceability of claims and average resolution times of up to 29 days. Added to this are frequent errors: loss of information, difficulty in correctly identifying the problem and lack of capacity to make effective decisions from the first contact.

These delays have repercussions not only on costs, but also on the customer's perception, making it difficult to coordinate expert visits and directly affecting the company's competitiveness.

SafeHome: innovation with purpose

SafeHome was created with the aim of transforming this scenario. It is a solution based on artificial intelligence assisted by images, designed to report, assess, evaluate, manage and resolve home incidents in a much more agile and efficient way.

Thanks to SafeHome, insurers can optimize the entire claims process, from claim identification to final resolution, reducing response times and repair costs. The initial physical visit to assess the damage is replaced by a remote damage capture system, through an AI-enabled mobile application connected to the insurer's internal system. This tool allows for an accurate and traceable assessment from the very beginning.

Public financing: a driver of real innovation

SafeHome is the result of two years of research, development and innovation, with the participation of multidisciplinary teams, technological experts and specialists from the insurance sector. A project of this complexity would not be possible without sustained investment, and here European public funding has been decisive.

Thanks to this support, we have been able to take on technological risks, move forward with guarantees and demonstrate the real impact of technology in a sector that has traditionally not been very digitized. Institutional backing not only provides funding: it validates a vision of the future, promotes collaboration between key players and accelerates applied innovation with a social impact.

At a time when many technology startups are struggling to stay on their feet, this type of European program becomes a fundamental pillar for moving towards a sustainable digital efficiency model.

SafeHome is just one example of what can be achieved when you are committed to purposeful innovation. There is still a long way to go in fully automating the process, but the transformation has already begun. And it is thanks to a collaboration that unites talent, technology and institutional commitment.
